CNG or Not?

So who's got an opinion on this? I've been looking into converting our new truck so that it will run on compressed natural gas as well as gasoline when you're in a pickle or need the power. The conversion costs are close to 8K. There is however a $2500 tax incentive Utah offers. The initial investment would be brutal but for the rest of the life of the car the driving costs would be almost free. Todays local gasoline $3.599 Regular, $0.639 CNG.

What does Stephen Wade have to say about it? Dad

Talk to people who have already converted and also will GM still honor the warranty on the truck? Do your research and I think it sounds like a worthwhile investment. Good post. Keep it up!

Oh my gosh! I almost fainted to see a new post! Sorry I have nothing to say about CNG. Thanks for your great comments on my blog - they always give me a good laugh! Love you, Mom

You will also want to consider:
1- availability of CNG stations to gas up
2- implications to resale/trade-in value.

I think it is an awesome idea. I want to put on solar panels too but I can't get past those initial conversion charges.

And where do you get the CNG, Mary had a good ? there.

I have never even heard of that. But it sounds cool. What if the CNG prices go up?

I think that the availability isn't there to warrant such a enormous up-front cost. You'll have to drive all the way across town to fill-up. You can buy a lot of gas for $5.5K - probably like 23K miles worth. You'll be ready for a new truck by then:)

Four words. Time value of money. Discount those cash flows, or savings in this case, and create a proforma. Sorry the real purpose is to let you know that I finally started my blog. So good luck with that.

Okay, I'll be the first to say it... it's much better for the environment, so if your friend's Tahoe doesn't blow up I say go for it! When are hydrogen cells gonna be ready?
